Discretionary admission
The joint application system enables you to apply for vocational upper secondary degree programmes based on discretionary admission if:
- You have learning difficulties
- It is necessary for social reasons
- Your comprehensive school diploma is missing (you have dropped out of comprehensive school)
- You are applying with a foreign diploma
- You lack sufficient language skills to complete the qualification
- You have a personalised syllabus in Finnish and mathematics
In these cases, you are only included in the joint application based on discretionary admission if:
- You have dropped out of comprehensive school
- You have attained your education abroad
- You have a personalised syllabus in Finnish and mathematics
Admission criteria
The discretionary admission is not based on the grades on your diploma. The admission criteria include:
- Your educational needs
- Your ability to complete the studies
- If necessary, your language and learning capabilities will be established (the national adaptive preparedness test is not in use)
All discretionary admission applications are processed. At least the applicants who have indicated this as their first choice are interviewed.
Application instructions
- Together with your guidance counsellor, make sure that you have a specific reason for discretionary admission.
- Acquire/ask your guidance counsellor (special counsellor, workshop instructor, etc.) for a statement of reason to attach to your application.
- Fill out the Studyinfo joint application form
- Submit the statement to the educational institution via the Wilma service by the end of March. If you are applying for several TAI programmes, only use one Wilma form. Regardless, write all of the options in the background information on the form. If you are submitting the documents by post, you can find the address of the Student Affairs Office on the campus website.
