Basic Education for Adults
Basic education for adults is suitable for you if you are over 17 years old and you do not have a study background, or your comprehensive school studies are incomplete and your mother tongue is not Finnish.
Literacy phase
The aim of the literacy phase is to learn mechanical reading and writing skills in the Latin alphabet and the basics of Finnish. The literacy phase lasts a maximum of 1.5 years.
Initial phase
In initial education, you will learn Finnish and other skills that you need to complete basic education or further studies. The education will help you integrate into Finnish society. The initial phase takes one year.
Final stage
The aim of the final stage is to obtain a basic education certificate for Finnish basic education. At the final stage, you can study if you are under the age of 25 and have sufficient knowledge of Finnish, mathematics and English. The final phase will last approximately 2 years.
Implementation
You will have your own plan at the beginning of your studies. You study at school during the day and also do homework.
You can get a study place in basic education for adults if
- you are an immigrant and have not attended a lot of school.
- you have good motivation.
- you need training.
- you can attend school every school day.
- You can start your final stage studies if you are under 25 years of age and you have sufficient skills in Finnish, mathematics and English.
Price and support
Teaching and teaching materials are free of charge. During the school day, you will receive a free meal. You pay for your school trips.
The studies are full-time, so you can receive support from the Social Insurance Institution of Finland for your studies. Discuss the matter with your own employment service expert before starting your studies.
